Freddie in Knowly Learning Journeys: Transitioning from Freddie as a stand-alone product

This article describes how Freddie works when it's used in a learning journey

This is how Knowly used to work: Two separate products

Previously, Knowly was divided into two separate tools: Learning journeys (also called "Micro-training" or "Regular Knowly") and Coach Freddie.

In Learning journeys, you, as an administrator, could build programs of micro-trainings and informational texts around your physical or virtual training events.
In Coach Freddie, you could make Freddie's automatic coaching follow-up available to the participants in your training session. You then entered the name of the training and got back a six-digit code or a unique link. The code or link was then used by the participants to register in the classroom on the website www.know.ly.

The tools were completely separate, and there was no way to link the two tools to each other. To use both products, the participants, therefore, had to create two separate accounts, and you, as an administrator, had to log in and out to get from one tool to the other.

How Knowly works now: A merged product

You who already use Freddie with or without Knowly learning journeys do not have to switch to the merged version. If you would rather continue using the current version, it will still be available.

  • If you do like to use both tools, you can now find Freddie inside the learning journey tool as an activity to add.
  • You add Freddie to your timeline as you add a micro-training, informational text or evaluation.

Important difference: Instead of registering with a code or unique link, participants now register via a link they receive sent to them either via email or SMS. As an administrator, you choose when the link is sent and the delivery method.

This means that you, as an administrator, must have entered the participants' contact information in advance, which you did not need before if you only used Freddie as a stand-alone tool.

  • Reason: Previously, each participant had two separate accounts. Once you as an administrator created when you invited the participants to the first micro-training, and one that was created when the participant himself registered for Freddie in the classroom. This made the experience difficult to overview, both for administrators and participants. Now there is instead only one account per participant, which is created when you, as an administrator, add the participant to the learning journey.
  • Once the participants have clicked on the link in the email or SMS, the registration flow looks exactly as before, with the only difference being that they now do not choose the delivery method (email or SMS), as you, as an administrator, have already made that choice.

To schedule the distribution of Freddie's registration link, you must create a new group of participants, just as before. As with all other activities in the learning journey, you can choose to schedule the sending of the registration link or to send it directly.

Use the merged version in the classroom

Question: I want the participants to register in the classroom/ in the virtual classroom. What do I do now when there is no longer a code or unique link for self-registration?

Answer: Schedule the registration for Freddie at a time just before the time you expect participants to write their action plans. Once it's time to write the action plans, ask participants to go to their email / SMS inboxes instead of filling in the code on know.ly. The information will then be easily accessible in the inbox.

If you notice that you need to get the link out before the scheduled time, you can also go into the scheduling view at any time and select "Send now".
